DESCRIPTION A key staff member of Transfer Student Success, the Academic Support Coordinator will work collaboratively with the TSS Program Manager to provide and coordinate student success services and programs for the unique needs of transfer students. Specifically, the Academic Support Coordinator will participate in the design, development, coordination, delivery, and administrative functions for a limited range of programmatic events and activities to provide academic support opportunities and services for transfer students. The Academic Support Coordinator will target services for students to explore academic fields of interest and connect them with existing campus resources for academic support. The Academic Support Coordinator will research, develop, coordinate, and conduct assessments of existing and available programs. Additionally, the position will participate in the design, development, coordination, implementation, and conduct of programs, workshops, events, and services to support the academic achievement of transfer students as needed. Proactively provide outreach and support to those who are experiencing academic difficulty, both individually and in groups. The Academic Support Coordinator will train, provide work direction, and support the professional development of student employees, such as transfer peer coaches. Under the supervision of the Program Manager of Transfer Student Success, this position will also serve as lead (at times) on special projects and committees which support the mission, vision, and programmatic goals of the unit. Evenings, weekends, and/or overtime may be required to support professional development, programs, and events. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of learning theories and training models. Demonstrated ability to provide work direction and mentoring for student staff to ensure their own personal development and growth by creating learning outcomes and goals for projects they are assigned, including the ability to provide in-service training. Knowledge of how learning skills issues apply to a research institution. Demonstrated skill and ability to develop and provide guidance and advice on academic issues. Ability to interpret and implement policies. Knowledge of strategies in critical thinking, reading, writing, note taking, test taking, time management, and goal setting. Strong organizational skills with ability to set priorities, multi-task, and meet deadlines and goals while experiencing regular interruptions. Skills in judgment and decision-making. Ability to establish objectives, set priorities, and work with others in support of departmental objectives and goals. Problem solving skills. Develops knowledge of specific learning theory, learning styles, affective issues, academic issues, and socio-cultural issues in applying academic support for students. Develops knowledge of current and theoretical models that influence the application and delivery of academic services (e.g., discipline specific; student-population specific). Knowledge of college student development theories and best practices; Demonstrated ability to identify and validate the needs, experiences, and concerns of transfer students. Multicultural competencies; knowledge and experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations. Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity and sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of college students. Oral and written communication skills; interpersonal and presentation skills. Ability to network and build relationships with campus and community college partners, academic and student affairs departments, and faculty to assist in developing programs and opportunities; Ability to advice and provide guidance to students regarding their learning needs. Ability to communicate information in small and large group settings. Ability to provide presentation, including planning and implementing synchronous and asynchronous activities to include, but not limited to, outreach functions, workshops and events. Proficient computer skills including databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and web-based systems. Proficient computer skills pertaining to learning modules, reporting and tracking systems.
