Technical Training in Fire Safety or Fire Sciences field. Position Purpose:Under minimal supervision inspects, maintains, and ensures operability of all life safety equipment and alarms as directed by both GAC policy and procedures and Fire Safety and Administrative Codes. Ensures that all fire detection and alarm systems are operational and accessible as directed by federal, local, and corporate standards. Partners with management to mitigate/reduce industrial injuries/illnesses, property damage, and property loss. Monitors compliance programs to conform to corporate and regulatory standards and ensures that employees are operating in a safe manner as directed by these standards.Job DescriptionPrinciple Duties and Responsibilities:Essential Functions: Responsible for fire safety at the Savannah Site and serves as a consultant to all other GAC facilities on fire safety issues. Maintains direct contact with 3rd party fire safety agencies such as local fire authorities, 3rd party insurance representatives (Loss Prevention), and vendors who provide services and maintenance on fire safety equipment and materials. Recommends/trains Savannah/Brunswick EHS Engineers and Coordinators in the use of protective equipment and loss prevention programs. Ensures all fire incidents/accidents are appropriately investigated and corrective actions are implemented. Inspects and maintains all plant fire protection systems and all major components vital to the operation of these systems and deals directly with vendors on any issues related to contractual services. Maintains and inspects all plant portable fire extinguishers including hydrostatics testing and recharging, deals directly with vendors on any issues related to contractual services. Evaluates and analyzes Loss Prevention reports to prevent loss possibilities and recommends corrective action. Makes recommendations to management based upon trend data in reports. Works with Facility Engineering and Industrial Engineering groups on plant layouts as it addresses means of egress and evacuation routes. . Tests fire alarm systems throughout the facility and provides maintenance as needed or required, monitors alarm systems to detect any vandalism. Inspects all areas to ensure fire safety standards are being property administered. Ensures that means of egress, fire protection equipment, and electrical power panels are kept clear of objects that block their accessibility. Identifies and corrects situations that present possible fire hazards. Monitors all posted means of egress and ensures emergency exit lighting is in place and operational. Maintains daily contact with employees to ensure adherence to fire safety requirements. Meets with contractors and vendors to exchange information on fire safety equipment or hot work permits and confine space requirements. Perform other duties as assigned.Other Requirements: Firefighting training courses. Fire equipment and materials training, usage and proper maintenance. Must have knowledge of fire protection/suppression systems and equipment, fire fighting procedures, and National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) requirements and Life Safety codes. Strong working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, Local Fire codes and regulations. Strong working knowledge of fire safety insurance policies, and fire safety equipment inspection and maintenance.
