Military careers are found in the military’s five branches which are The Air Force, Navy, Army, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. The structure of the military organization enacted thru the National Security Act of 1947, established the United States Air Force and the War Department was changed to Department of Defense headed by the Secretary of Defense. The military consists of three departments, the department of the Air Force, The department of the Navy, and the department of the Army which are headed by civilian appointed by the President.

The Army, established on 1775 by the Continental Congress, is the oldest and largest Military service. Protecting and defending the country is the main function of this branch, using artillery, armor tanks, ground troops, attack helicopters, and tactical nuclear weapons. The Army National Guard and The Army Reserve support the Army.

The Air Force is the youngest military service established thru the National security act of 1947. Its main goal is to protect and defend by the use of air and space, operating tanker aircraft, fighter aircraft, transport aircraft helicopters, light and bomber aircraft. This branch of military also controls all of the Nation’s strategic nuclear ballistic missiles and military satellites. Its home to almost 69,000 active commissioned officers and enlisted members numbering 288,000.



The Navy was also established through the Continental Congress of 1775. The main goal of this branch is to maintain freedom in the sea. The Navy supports the Air Force by deploying aircrafts where it is impossible to have a fixed runway. Navy aircraft carriers usually have 80 aircraft mostly fighter-bombers. In addition, Navy ships using cruise missiles can hit land targets miles away. Transporting Marines is also one of the primary responsibilities of the Navy. There are about 54,000 active navy officers and enlisted personnel.

The Marine Corps is the Infantry of the navy. Assault, capture, and control are the primary goals of this branch of the military. Also established through the Continental Congress of 1775, active officers number about 18,000 and enlisted personnel 153,000, making this the smallest branch of the military. It is composed of Teams, Squads, Platoons, Companies, Regiments and divisions

The Coast Guard’s primary goal is enforcement of the law on boating safety, sea rescue, and illegal immigration control. This branch of the military consists of boats, aircraft, ships, shore control with 7,000 active officers and enlisted personnel numbering 29,000.

There are three general categories in a military career:

The backbone of the military, “Enlisted Personnel”, performs the main jobs, working as specialists, providing direct supervision to subordinates.

Warrant Officers are specially trained to provide instructions, leadership and specialized knowledge to commissioned officers and enlisted members.

Providing leadership and overall management in their area of responsibility, the Top Brass of the services is the Commissioned Officers

Some military career and functions are:

Aircrew Operations Career includes program formulating, planning, inspections, combat operations. Responsibilities include supervision of primary aircrew duties to in-flight refueling, airdropping cargo, airborne communication and control system, restraining, and off-loading cargo on military aircraft, and aircraft flight engineer activities.

Intelligence career field primary functions are but not limited to gathering, Distributing and producing data with tactical, technical values and strategically value in an intelligent point of view, language translation, interpretation, and information security.

Aircrew Flight Equipment Specialists is the personnel that inspects, maintains, adjust aircrew flight equipment and packs such as parachutes, oxygen masks, flotation devices, helmet mounted devices, survival kits, and other ocular systems, aircrew chemical defense equipments, inventories, assets and supplies.

Command and Control Systems Operations Career functions are involved in aerospace surveillance, controlling, plotting, aerospace vehicle detection, including missile-warning systems, Operations of ground radar and related equipments, control tower and airways supervision. Maintaining and processing of flight plan and operations of electronic warfare countermeasure gadgets.
