This is a team of police officers who are highly skilled and specially trained in weapons and rescue operations. SWAT teams have dangerous jobs and usually deal with high-risk situations such as terrorists, armed criminals, and hostages. They also provide assistance to police officers in dangerous situations such as drug raids, search warrants, and arrests and they provide security for public events.
If you have the desire to become a SWAT member, here are some steps you can take:
- First, attend a police academy for training.
- Most SWAT members are required to have at least three years experience in the police force, so once you complete the training in the police academy, begin your work as a police officer.
- After three years, apply for the SWAT program.
- If you are chosen to be interviewed, you will be required to pass an ability test and physical examination. The physical test will examine your ability to do exercises such as push ups, pull ups, and running. You will also be tested on your ability to handle weapons.
- After passing the physical and ability tests, you will be required to pass a psychological test, which will be administered by an outside psychologist.
The psychologist will determine if you have the mental capability to handle the stress of this position. - Once you pass the psychological test, you will be interviewed by the police review board. This interview is the final step. The board will evaluate you to determine if you have the attitude and the skills necessary to be a SWAT member. If you pass the board interview, you can begin your career as a SWAT officer.
