Grabbing Their Attention before Graduation
The major concentration on marketing efforts at the high school level targets the senior class where recruiters offer programs that initially enlist last year high school students on their first day of the senior year. This is called the delayed entry program which prepares enlistees in a number of ways both psychologically and physically for entry into the Navy within a short time after high school graduation. Other efforts targeting this market segment include exposing the junior high school class to the benefits of signing up for the Navy having them get accustomed to the idea so they also can participate in the delayed entry program at the beginning of their senior year.
Getting On College Campuses
The college market for Navy recruitment is quite different than programs aimed at high school students. Seniors at the undergraduate college-level can enlist in Navy officer candidate programs for which they become eligible after graduation. Navy recruiters also work with two-year community colleges where graduates from these institutions may be eligible for specialized advanced enlistment programs. The Navy has an active NROTC (Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps) on many college campuses across the nation where participants receive education assistance while training to become Navy officers.
Getting Out to the Mall
Most local-based Navy recruiters will take their recruitment message on the road, so to speak, to locations throughout the community that grant them wide exposure and access to the general public. These scenarios include simply walking among and associating with people at a local shopping mall, as well as setting up a table or booth at community-based and sponsored job and employment fairs. Often, recruiters will find individuals who are dissatisfied with their present employment circumstances and are seeking whatever options are open for finding a more meaningful career. Candidates from this particular market segment are sought after emphatically since they present an easy transfer from civilian life to military jobs command.
Give It another Try
Many recruitment efforts on the local level are targeted at individuals with prior military service where contact is made offering individuals beneficial re-enlistment programs. Some of the benefits from these re-enlistment programs include quick processing and reinstatement of rank as well as individual selection of duty training for a job military. Often financial re-enlistment bonuses are offered for individuals as incentives employed to have them consider finishing a 20-year career in the Navy.
