There's good news for military spouses looking to pursue their education and career goals. Earlier this year, the Department of Defense (DoD) and Veteran's Administration (VA) announced brand new benefit programs that enable spouses of service members to receive financial assistance as they seek to gain the skills and credentials to begin or advance their careers.

The Military Spouse Career Advancement Account Program (MyCAA) is a Department of Defense (DoD) program that provides financial assistance - up to $6000 - to spouses of active duty military members and spouses of activated Guard and Reserve service members (deployed for a year or more) for certification, licensure, education or training in careers in high-growth, high-demand occupations.

Legal spouses of military service members with a minimum of one year remaining on Active Duty are eligible for the Program. This includes spouses of active duty service members, Coast Guard deployed with the Navy, Active/Guard Reserve (AGR), and Reserve Component service members (Guard and Reserve) called to active duty for a year or more.

To apply for the program, you must complete an online profile and call a Military OneSource Career and Education Consultant at (800) 342-9647 to create a career plan and goal. If you need any assistance with your profile or eligibility questions, please call Military OneSource.

Eligible spouses can establish a MyCAA Account by visiting the MyCAA web site at https://aiportal.acc.af.mil/mycaa. Setting up an account is an easy 7-step process. Once spouse profile information is provided, MyCAA will verify spouse eligibility. If there are eligibility problems, MyCAA will provide guidance on how to resolve related issues.
Eligible spouses will be allowed to move forward to create their Career and Training Plan and request Financial Assistance (FA) when they are within 90 days of course start dates. As a separate requirement, spouses are responsible for applying to their selected school or program and enrolling in each course included in their established Career and Training Plan.

Military spouses who are not eligible for MyCAA funding may have their tuition waived when their active-duty spouse enroll at Allied using Tuition Assistance (TA). This is available under Allied's Military Family Scholarship Program, which is an in-house military spouse scholarship program designed to give military spouses and dependents more opportunities to get the career training they need. Restrictions apply, available for certain programs and courses only.

This Allied-created scholarships for military spouse program allows military spouses (or dependents) to prepare for a new career without the worry of paying for tuition or stressing about in-state/ out-of-state residency requirements. Allied Schools appreciates the many sacrifices that military families have made on behalf of the men and women in uniform who defend the nation.
